Nichiren Buddhism: Journal 1

I recently registered as a member of Bharat Soka Gakkai (BSG), the Indian wing of Soka Gakkai International (SGI)... practitioners of Nichiren Buddhism. It's been a couple of weeks, but I haven't really been chanting or doing the Gongyo regularly. Until yesterday, that is.

Yesterday, two of the YWD (Youth Women Division) members from my neighborhood dropped by at my place, for mentoring. After talking to them, I was inspired to put some more effort into this.

Here are my initial experiences with the practice.

My Early Experiences With Diamoku Practice

Day 1: 31st May, 2013

Instead of the usual 5-10 minutes of chanting, I decided to do it for a longer time yesterday. Also, I had acute pain in my lower body (including my legs), which meant that I wouldn't have been able to concentrate on self Reiki without first taking a pain-killer. So I decided to see if the chanting would help.

I started chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo at 11:20 pm yesterday night. I couldn't sit because of the pain. So I lay on my bed while I did the chanting. I also started Reiki for the pain. Eventually, I could feel the pain reducing, and drowsiness taking over. Finally, at 11:50 pm, I stopped the chanting and went to sleep, without taking the pain-killer! Had a good night's sleep and woke up fresh in the morning.

Day 2: 1st June, 2013

I was able to do both the morning and evening Gongyo today, and also did another half hour of chanting, from 7:05 pm to 7:35 pm. Felt a lot of heat emanating from my body, especially from my forearms and palms, which was surprising as I'm usually hypothermic.

I also felt a lot of energy flooding into my Crown Chakra while I was chanting. After about 15-20 minutes of chanting, I had this sudden visualization and feeling that I was in some kind of fertile land, and I could plant any wish into this land and it WILL grow. No conditions attached.

After completing the session, I decided to do a Reiki session. The Reiki flow was considerably increased. I feel some pain in the head though, in the Crown Chakra region... as if some energy activity is still going on in that region. Hopefully, it should pass soon.

Day 2 update:

While I was doing the evening Gongyo, Dad was sitting in the room with me, and doing some Reiki. He then left for his walk. After he returned, he told me that his Reiki flow had increased when I started doing the Gongyo.
